Charles Williams grew up in a country town in Northern Victoria, far from anything connected to filmmaking, except for an obsession with films. Though his household was largely dependent on government assistance, he found a way to make films with equipment ‘borrowed’ from the local school and, while still in his teens, he won the Best Director award at Tropfest. Over the past decade his acclaimed films have screened and won awards at some of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand, SXSW, Telluride, Toronto, MIFF, Flickerfest and Sapporo. In 2016 he was nominated for Best Short Fiction Film at the AACTA Awards. His latest short film All These Creatures has been awarded the Palme D'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Charles is currently developing feature projects Inside and The Buzzard.
His filmography so far includes films All These Creatures (2018), Home (2015), There Had Better Be Blood (2010), The Cow Thief (2006), I Can’t Get Started (2002).
