Like modern times’ Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, Sam and Jonathan, two travelling salesmen peddling novelty items, take us on a kaleidoscopic wandering through human destinies. A trip that shows us the beauty of single moments, the pettiness of others, the humor and tragedy that is in us, life’s grandeur as well as frailty of humanity.
Roy Andersson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. His debut feature, A Swedish Love Story (1970), won four awards at Berlin. He went on a twenty-five-year hiatus from feature filmmaking after the release of his second film, Giliap (1975), directing commercials and shorts. His recent features are Songs from the Second Floor (2000), which won the Jury Prize at Cannes, and You, the Living (2007). A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (2014) is his latest film.
