INTERNATIONAL FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL KUSTENDORF 2011

SUBMISSION FORM


Students or self-taught non-released filmmakers can submit a film (under 45 minutes of duration) on any genre for consideration to the Competition programme. The film should be sent on a DVD with English subtitles (if the original language is not English) and on a separate CD - Submission Form with film details, visual materials and contacts.

ABBAS KIAROSTAMI AT KUSTENDORF 2011
Details
The guest of the fourth Kustendorf International Film and Music Festival will be celebrated Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami. In his almost fourty year long film career, Kiarostami was a screenwriter, producer, editor, photographer, actor. He is also a poet, painter, illustrator and graphic designer.

During the seven days of the third Kustendorf International Film and Music Festival, young authors had the chance to meet, socialize with and learn from more experienced and famous colleagues such as: Christian Carion, Fatih Akin, Elia Suleiman, Pavel Lungin, Asghar Farhadi, Raja Amari, Marjane Satrapi, Sara Driver, Jonathan Weisgal, Johnny Depp and of course, Emir Kusturica.

KUSTENDORF IS A FOUND PARADISE
Details
The closing ceremony of the 3rd International film and music festival started off with the performance of the folklore ensemble „Svetozar Markovic“ from the student cultural centre of Kragujevac. Their songs, music, and notably their dance heated the already scorching atmosphere and the impatience of the audience, eager to find out who were the award winners of Kustendorf 2010.

BE CREATIVE GANGSTERS
Details On the last day of festival, Jim Jarmusch’s latest film The Limits of Control was shown as part of the Contemporary Trends programme. After the screening of the film, jury member, author, producer and longtime associate and partner of Jarmusch Sara Driver, held a workshop for the students of film academies.

IN TODAY'S WORLD, SUCCESSFUL FILMS ARE DEPERSONALIZED
Details
The musical If A Thousand Clarinets, a Czechoslovakian film made by Ján Roháč and Vladimír Svitáček in 1965, was shown on the sixth day of Kustendorf 2010 as part of the Evergreen programme.
After the screening, famous Serbian director and founder of the festival Emir Kusturica, a former Prague's film directing student, held his long-awaited workshop. He spoke about Eastern European film, the reasons for initiating this festival and the notable difference between author and commercial films.

A VERY PERSONAL STORY

The president of the jury of the 3rd International film and music festival Kustendorf, comic and film author Marjan Satrapi gave a workshop for students and participants of the Competition programme after the screening of her animated feature Persepolis, which in 2007 won the jury award at the Cannes Film Festival.

The fourth feature About Elly was presented by the Iranian director Asghar Farhadi who won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 59th Berlin film festival, which was shown in many festivals worldwide. The film revises complicated interpersonal relationships, questioning elements such as morality, guilt, and trust throughout a simple story about a group of old friends who go on a short vacation together, which is shortly after interrupted when a young woman goes missing.

The film Tsar, by the renowned Russian director Pavel Lungin, was screened as part of Contemporary Trends programme. It tells the story of Russia, power, conflict between two points of view, and the values that rule them, all while being illustrated through the relationship between two powerful historical icons: Ivan the Terrible and the Metropolitan Filip.

THE TERM 'SERIOUS ACTOR' IS AN OXYMORON
Details
On the second day of the Kustendorf festival, Drvengrad was already awake despite the early morning hours. Students and young film authors were impatiently waiting for the workshop with Johnny Depp to commence, all while talking about the events that occured the day before. The fun and energetic performance of the Austrian group Global Kryner was frequently mentioned, as well as the after party that followed. There, students and young authors alike could mingle and take photographs with well-known authors, guests of the festival and with a global star, such as Johnny Depp.

THE OPENING OF KUSTENDORF 2010
Details
The third annual international film and music festival Kustendorf opened with the unvieling of the statue of Johnny Depp, the honorary guest and promoter of this year's festival. In front of numerous visitors and guests of the festival, along with fantastic fireworks and the music of the Dejan Pertrovic Orchestra, Depp and Emir Kusturica improvised a small performance. They took turns in removing layers of different flags that embodied the statue, portraying his character in the movie Arizona Dream.

JOHNNY DEPP ARRIVED AT THE KUSTENDORF 2010

Renouned American actor Johnny Depp, on the day before the third annual Kustendorf film and music festival, traveled to Serbia via helicopter and landed in Mokra Gora, in Drvengrad. After a quick break, Johnny Depp, accompanied by his host and the founder of the Festival Emir Kusturica, took a walk around the village. Enthusiastic and smiling, Depp chatted with the Festival visitors and photographed with fans, all while modestly denying his glamorous Hollywood star status.

KUSTENDORF 2010 OPENING CEREMONY
Details
The third International Film and Music Festival Küstendorf will be opened on Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 in Drvengrad at 4.30 pm. The opening ceremony will begin with the unveiling of the life-sized bust of Johnny Depp, along with the fireworks and the music of Dejan Petrović Orchestra (the winner of the 2009 Guča trumpet festival). Afterwards, Johnny Depp will receive a special award named the “Award for Future Movies”.

International Küstendorf Film and Music Festival is organized by Rasta International and will take place from January 13 - 19, 2010 in Drvengrad, Mokra Gora, Serbia. Festival is under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia.

The third International Küstendorf Film and Music Festival is dedicated to the future filmmakers and great contemporary film authors.
